A frigate design that was ahead of it's time: Constitution was deep, sturdy, long, narrow, and carried 44-50+ guns at any one time. It's innovative construction coupled with the size of the guns that it was able to carry allowed it to not only punch above it's weight, but also out-run larger ships of the line, making the USS Constitution a deadly adversary.
